Summary:
The Cheddar Chase offers runners a challenging 13km multi terrain route with some serious climbs rising to 800 feet above sea level, but with the compensation of superb views into Cheddar Gorge and out across the Somerset levels.
Starting in the shadow of 450ft High Rock in Cheddar Gorge, this scenic run leads first to the 274 steps up the side of the Gorge into the 'Cheddar Gorge and Caves' Nature Reserve, along the cliff top tracing a figure of eight route through this area of outstanding natural beauty, across fields and tracks to the Roman Lead mines at Charterhouse, back along the cliff top on the north side of Cheddar Gorge and returning to the base of High Rock.
